Pickerel Weed (Pontederia), is a very common aquatic plant, endemic to the Americas, from Canada to Argentina, and is found in shallow water and mud. One bee species (Dufourea novaeangliae) exclusively favors Pontederia cordata. This is an efficient biological filterer of polluted water.
