Amethyst Brook and nearby Heatherstone Brook are fed from Mount Orient, and both drain into Fort River, and then into the Connecticut River and then to Long Island Sound. Mount Orient and the brooks are located near and in Pelham, Massachusetts, near Amherst, Massachusetts. Mount Orient is traversed by both the Metacomet-Monadnock and the Robert Frost Trails. The Robert Frost Trail cuts 47 miles through the Connecticut River Valley of Massachusetts, and in the Amherst and Leverett areas includes Lawrence Swamp, Pomroy Pond, Harkness Brook Ravine, Amethyst Brook, the Mount Orient ledges, Atkins Reservoir, Cushman Brook Ravine, Puffer's Pond, and the Leverett Knobs. These photos and artistic renderings are of Amethyst Brook.
