Artist's Description
The anhinga is an extrovert of the bird world. Loud, demonstrative, gangly young arguing about and fighting for food morsels delivered by the parents, make them a treat to watch and photograph. These two were moderately calm at this moment, but that did not last long. One wonders how the parents survive the feeding frenzy, with stiletto-like beaks jabbing at their faces. The range of the anhinga in North America is limited to the southeastern US and Mexican coastal areas and Cuba. These particular anhingas were found at the Audubon Preserve in Venice, Florida.
