This plant was found at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.
Hydrangea macrophylla is native to Japan, growing to 7 feet tall. It may also be called French Hydrangea, lacecap hydrangea, mophead hydrangea, penny mac and Hortensia. Practical uses of this plant include a beverage made from fermented leaves (Amacha), a drug with possible antiallergic and antimicrobial properties, use in Tasmania in building protection zones due to its low flammability, and investigations into possible antimalarial and anti-diabetic use.
