Description
This is very small owl, in the Order of barn owls and true owls (Tytonidae and Strigudae), is active during the daylight hours (diurnal), thus making it very easy to see and photograph. There are numerous nests in the Fort Myers Florida area where these pictures were taken.These owls are not shy and place their nests in virtually any vacant lot, front yard, construction site, or ball field. There range is predominately in the western and southwestern part of United States, Mexico, and Central America, and there is a good population throughout much of southern Florida and Central Florida. Their diet consists of small mammals and also fruits and seeds. They are monogamous and colonial and either build their own nests or burrows, or use those abandoned by other animals.
