Description
The Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) makes you want to smile. Its bright pink coloration, especially in the adults, and the spoon-like bill adapted to bottom feeding are outstanding features. The young and immature are much less colorful (mostly white, some pink), but no less amusing to watch, as they sweep the bill back and forth in search of morsels. The Spoonbill is in the ibis family. This bird is found along the Gulf coast, the both coasts of Mexico and in the Caribbean in North America. They dine on fish, crustaceans and shrimp. This particular Spoonbill was dining with a friend.
