Description

This extensive old Icelandic coastal lava flow is now covered with a softening mantle of moss. The photo was taken in 1963 on a bird-watching expedition with an Icelandic naturalist, in search of a newly-reported eagle's nest in the area. We did find the nest, but it was far off, and difficult to reach, given the rugged terrain.
