Description
This snake was encountered behind by RV when camping at Holiday Cove RV Resort in Cortez, Florida. It is a red rat snake (Eastern Corn Snake, Pantherophis guttatus), very common down here. There are three things of interest in this particular snake. First, there is an obvious old injury on the coil of the body farthest to the left. Second, there is bulge on the right side, suggesting a recent meal. And finally, the eyes are opaque and the scales are hazy, indicating that the snake is about to shed. I guess its good eating success is allowing it to grow out of its current clothing (skin).
