This scallop is on the beach at Longboat Key, Florida. Scallops are saltwater clams (marine bivalve mollusks) in the family Pectinidae. Scallops are capable of rapidly swimming short distances when sensing predators, using propulsion by clapping the shells together. They are often used for food.
